Species Information

General:
Perennial herb from a taproot with a stem-base clothed with brown decaying leaf bases; stems decumbent to erect, simple, bowed, spreading stiff-hairy, 6-15 cm tall.
Leaves:
Basal leaves 2-4 cm long, the stalks half the leaf length or less, twice divided with 1-2 pairs of primary lateral lobes, these often lobed again, whitish to brownish bristly-hairy; stem leaves lacking.
Flowers:
Inflorescence of solitary flowers on brown stiff-hairy stalks; buds nodding, 8-14 mm long; petals 4, white to rose with a basal yellow spot, 12-20 mm long.
Fruits:
Capsules, nearly round to ellipsoid, 10-13 mm long, 1-2.5 times longer than wide, bristly-hairy, the hairs ivory-coloured.

Habitat and Range

Mesic to dry scree slopes in the alpine zone; rare in NW BC; amphiberingian, N to AK and YT; Kamchatka.
